“Standard profit and loss statements provide historical data, but don’t allow executives to correct unfavorable trends, measure results of specific strategies, and/or reward outstanding performance,” says Michael Emaus, President and CEO of eEnterprise (www.eEnterprise.com), a global integrator of NetSuite, the world’s leading on-demand software. “A P&L is only a scorecard of what happened in the past. The actionable information is in the key performance indicators - the metrics of who is doing what with whom, when and how. This is what we call the 360-degree view of a business, department, and/or location.”

All too often, business teams are hamstrung because they receive untimely information that reports performance rather than . “In a variety of ways, these executives say the same thing: they get balance sheets and profit and loss statements, but they have no way of knowing what’s causing the numbers to trend up or down,” says Emaus. “Because they don’t know the cause of the trend, it is largely unknown whether to focus efforts on certain offices, targeted geographic locations, certain salespeople, specific products, or a particular type of client.”

“In today’s environment, the growth organization needs to think fast, move fast, and embrace change,” says Emaus. With the global economy pressuring the market to build virtual and instant locations, executives need accurate, real-time, standardized information that is accessible to all levels of management and key employees. “That actionable information is especially crucial for growing a business or a multi-location enterprise,” says Emaus, whose company integrates NetSuite for businesses of all sizes, particularly multi-location, global and/or franchise organizations. “Now we are talking about the NetSuite 360-degree view of a business, department, and/or location.”

NetSuite’s two primary advantages are ease of integration and information accessibility. NetSuite integrates its four major components - sales (CRM), back office (ERP), support, and eCommerce - and makes them accessible in one system via the Internet, offering a business owner no limits on growth, management, and reach. According to Emaus, “NetSuite provides a true single view of the customer - the lead, the prospect, the product or service, the invoice, and the support. So, when a salesperson needs a history of buying patterns, they see it in real-time. When someone from accounting wants to see which products or services have been invoiced, he or she can reference the same record as the salesperson. And, when the support staff needs to view the knowledge base, they can refer to the same record and attach alerts back to sales.”

Because NetSuite is an on-demand solution, it triggers positive payback by eliminating the restraints of the traditional client/server environment. The result enables users to access relevant and timely information from anywhere/anytime.

But Emaus emphasizes that the software alone isn’t enough. “Our customers generally understand immediately that an integrated, on-demand Software as a Solution (SaaS) requires business engineers who understand their industries and goals. It requires an understanding in business first, and technology second. Delivering 360-degree collaboration tailored around a variety of industries is the true differentiator for eEnterprise.”

Concludes Emaus, “Larry Ellison pioneered the Internet for the Enterprise. Now he and NetSuite are pioneering it for the SMB market. The Internet has been his baby, and for him to acknowledge that the Small-Medium Size Business (SMB) market is where the drive is tells me he hasn’t lost his game. We’re thankful for that.”

Chris Jack asked:

is one of the much appreciated jobs positions in the world. The manager is required to have a so that he makes sure that all the business in running smoothly and there are no stones on the way of success and no decrease in the amount of profit earned each year.

All organizations, including business has managers. They may not be called managers as different titles can be used such as leaders, directors, and and so on. A good business manager should have abilities to plan, organize, co-ordinate, command and control. In , the above mentioned abilities are used a lot. Some examples of these decisions are

o Should we open a new factory in the north or south of a country?

o What price should we charge for the new product?

o Do we buy the new machine even though this will involve job losses for some of our workers?

o Is expansion in another country going to be profitable?

In all the decisions are important so it is common to divide these decisions into three types

Strategic decisions are very important which can affect the overall success of the business. Tactical decisions are decisions which are taken more frequently and which are less important. Operational decisions are day-to-day decisions, which will be taken by a lower level of manager.

Taking decision is always a risk. Time, money and other resources will be used as a result of a decision. In , taking decisions is one of the toughest jobs. In a small business, such as a sole trader, the owner is the manager. This person will be taking risks with their own capital or savings. These people are referred to as or risk takers. If the decision goes wrong they could end up losing their own house and other assets. In a larger business such as a public limited company, the manager taking the decision in not risking his or her own capital but that of the shareholders. Although the manager is still taking risks, the cost of poor decisions will be felt differently. The manager may lose his or her job but it is the shareholders capital that is at stake.

These risks cannot be eliminated but can be reduced by following some simple steps. These steps are sometimes called the decision-making process.

o It is important to establish the objectives of the organization.

o Identify and analyze the problem to be solved.

o Collect data on all possible alternative solutions.

o The most important decision in is to make the final decision and put it into effect.

o Look back to see whether the right decision was made. This is called review and evaluation of the decision.

Each department has its own manager. Like the manager of the human resource project will be responsible for

o Forecasting staff needs

o Recruiting staff

o Preparing job descriptions

o Keeping staff records etc.

In it is the duty of the managers to look over the departments.

GPS - Business Plan

Jennifer Jolan asked:

?

Last year I attended my annual Women of Faith conference and I was joined by several of my closest friends and traveling companions.?We decided to drive to Boston and so our adventure began.?? One of my friends brought her new GPS () that she had received as a Christmas present.?I was so impressed with the precise directions that this micro computer gave us.?This GPS was wonderful; it gave us directions on where to turn and it even told us how many feet we needed to drive before reaching the turning lane.?Better yet this little navigation device spoke to us in a gentle, soothing, and kind voice; which allowed us to stay focused on our destination.?? The GPS even informed us when we made a wrong turn.?? There was no condemnation, just a lovely voice informing me that there was a recalculation and now I will simply have to take another road to reach my desired destination.?Wow!?I like that kind of back seat driving!

?

Many times since that trip I have thought about my GPS experience and those thoughts sprang to a comparison to my own desired business goals and my .?It is a well documented fact that many micro and small business owners do not have a in order to drive their businesses to success.?? No doubt there are some who would say that they are operating their business just fine without a documented plan.?In an earlier blog post I passed on an interesting fact that only 3% of have specific written goals.??? Your plans are more likely to come to fruition if you write them down.

?

A is your roadmap to achieving the success that you desire for your business.?It is a living breathing document that can change with the winds of your business.?Often events may arise where you have deviated from your original ; however, the GPS () quickly does a recalculation and gently informs you how to get back on course.

?

Your is your navigation system, which will allow you to set-up milestones to view your progress.?This will allow you to know how many “feet” you are away from reaching your goal.?? Your helps you to identify the bumps in the road and will help you decide which route you may want or need to take to overcome your obstacles.?Your can and should be reviewed and modified to meet the forever changing demands of your business, economy, and clients.

?

Much like a your uses tools that are essential to your business:?planning, communication, and management are skills that are key to your success.?Not having a clear and precise could leave your business stranded with no direction.

?

Remember your goal is for your business to succeed.?A well devised will help you identify and develop the skills necessary for your business to thrive.?Much like my experience with the GPS, a well devised will help navigate your business to meet you destination.
